Saracens were 19-10 winners over the Western Force at Old Albanians on Friday night running in three tries against the Super 14 outfit.
Michael Owen crossed the line on his debut and there was also a score from Rodd Penney and a fine team try that was rounded off by Adam Powell that secured the win in front of the 2,500 crowd in St Albans.
Although there is still plenty to work on, Saracens worked hard in defence to restrict the visitors to a single try for Caleb Brown minutes into the second half and offered promising glimpses in attack to take into next week's friendlies against Toulon and the Dragons.
It was the home side who opened the scoring on 11 minutes with a try for debutant Owen. The former Wales captain, a summer signing from the Dragons, drove over the line from short range to cap... [Read More]

Minor premiers Kalamunda meet runners-up Nedlands in Saturday’s major semi-final while third-placed Wanneroo play reigning premiers Perth-Bayswater in Sunday’s minor semi-final in the first weekend of the KWIK Senior Rugby competition finals.
The pressure may be marginally less in the coveted major-semi final, but the rewards are greater. The winner of the Kalamunda-Nedlands game gets a ticket into the grand final at Rugby Park, Floreat, on 31 August, with a week of extra preparation and recovery. The loser gets another chance in the preliminary final on 24 August.
Kalamunda edged Nedlands 27-26 in round three with a come-from-behind flurry of late scoring but Nedlands had their revenge in style in round 12, dumping the error prone Bulls 35-18 in a counter-attacking frenzy.
Wanneroo and... [Read More]

Saracens Academy side were beaten 17-36 by their counterparts from Western Force at Old Albanians on Tuesday night.
Ahead of the first team clash between the two teams on Friday night, it was the turn of the youngsters to take centre stage along with a selection of experienced heads from both outfits.
Saracens included the likes of Cobus Visagie, Dan Scarbrough and Adam Powell in their line-up while Western Force complimented their side with Super 14 regulars including Tai McIsaac, Junior Pelesasa and new signing Caleb Brown.
Despite coming under early pressure from the visitors, Saracens took the lead in the game with a well worked try for James Short. After making the most of a turnover on halfway, scrum half Mickey Wilson brushed off two tackles before releasing the Saracens wing to race home... [Read More]
