Argentina lock to miss Wallabies clash

Argentina lock Tomas Lavanini will miss Saturday night's Rugby Championship Test against the Wallabies on the Gold Coast after pleading guilty to foul play on All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw.

Lavanini was cited for "dangerous charging" by the SANZAR citing commissioner on Sunday for not using his arms when he cleaned out McCaw in a ruck in the 51st minute of the Test won 28-9 by New Zealand in Napier on Saturday.

Match referee Pascal Gauzere awarded a penalty for the incident, but the citing commissioner deemed the incident met the red card threshold for foul play.

SANZAR duty judicial officer Adam Casselden later accepted Lavanini's guilty plea and he was subsequently suspended for one week.

Lavanini will be available to take on the All Blacks in Argentina at the end of the month.

"The player's action can be described as reckless and not intentional. I accepted as mitigating factors the age of the player, his good playing record and his early guilty plea," Casselden said in a statement.
