AN ONLINE poll says sport should be allowed to put up 3rd party sponsorship signs at their venues.
Sixty-two percent - or 270 users - of the the 429 users that voted said no to this question: Do you support the Darwin City Council's visual pollution bylaws that stop sports from displaying 3rd party signage at Territory sporting venues, including Marrara?
Yes attracted 145 votes or 33%. Five per cent, or 14 voters, didn't care.
One other user who had trouble voting submitted a No vote via email.
The online poll was launched in the wake of the Northern Territory Rugby Union asking Darwin City Council to review signage bylaws at Marrara. The meeting ended last Tuesday night with council telling the sport to remove all 3rd party signage under their visual pollution bylaws.
The original poll, set up last Friday, had to be removed on Saturday after it was set-up incorrectly and swamped with multiple votes, in favour of the bylaws.
The poll, reset on Saturday afternoon, allowed just one user / browser to vote only once.
The stricter voting protocols did have an impact on the overall vote as users on a network, such as an office, were restricted to just one collective vote. It forced many users to vote from their home computers if they had access to the internet.
