The mind boggles. :S
Where is RUPA? Where are the cries of ‘foul’ from the Tahs, Reds and Brumbies? Where is the governance from RA?
Any more than 40 in a SR squad is a clear breach of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Can this situation get any worse?
I think they are bringing in a variation to the Folou Rule so that you don`t even have to come from another code. If you change Super Rugby Teams or didn`t play Super Rugby the year before, your salary does have to come under the cap ;)
Keep in mind the former head of RUPA works for the Rebels now right? He'd have to be steering this ship to get them around the agreements.
It makes me so angry that no one on the eastern sea board has cared enough to do something about what has been happening. Australian Rugby has the weakest leaders out of any sporting organisation in this country. Its run by greedy corrupt corporate men that have their hands all over the piggy bank. It is almost like the NSWRU and QRU are complicit and taking kickbacks from their mates at Moore park.
Wouldn't surprise me if we find out the whole organisation got hijacked during John O'Neils tenure by a nasty bunch of corrupt individuals. It reminds me of the NSW police force in the 50's, 60's and ofcourse the 70's, the RA seemed to have met the same fate and the only organizations that can fix the corrupt issues bleeding through the organisation are the same corrupt complicit individuals running the NSWRU and QRU.
Well the Brumbies who have been seen to be a disruptive voice at board level would have tried but needed support. The Rabble are now part of the establishment the Brumbies and Force aren't.
- Next year is an RWC year, so the ARU/RA's revenues in 2019 from its cash cow (the Wallabies tests played in Australia) will be down significantly.
- In normal pre RWC years, the ARU/RA probably would provision for the reduced revenues of the RWC year.
- However, the financial void which is the Melbourne Rebels (plus cash "advances" to other SR teams) probably won't permit a useful provision to be made from 2018 revenues.
- The ARU/RA cannot have a repeat of 2018 vis-à-vis the finances of the Melbourne Rebels, so they really have no choice other than to throw anything and everything at the Rebels which could assist in getting their 2019 revenues up (e.g. James Slipper, Quade Cooper, Matt Toomua, etc).
- Small niceties such as a salary cap probably won't be allowed to get in the way of increasing the Melbourne Rebels' revenue in 2019-2020.
Well to get their revenue up the Rabble need a proper major sponsor not a start up and have better season ticket prices.
