ARU contract process not working

If you are a dinky-di Australian rugby supporter, you would have been disillusioned to see Will Genia's statement on Fox Sports' The Rugby Club about his contract situation.

With the frustration about the amount of time for the ARU component of his contract to be resolved, Genia said he has now basically put himself on the open market.

He made a controversial announcement in April that despite having verbally agreed with the Western Force, he was going to backflip and stay with Queensland for three more years.

It is now October 21 and this situation is still unresolved.

The ARU component of his contract has not been settled. How could this be the case?

I am not privy to contractual discussions, but it doesn't look like it is working.

Is it not working because Will Genia's demands are too big, or is it because the ARU process makes too many allowances from a time perspective to come to a deal?

I now know in a corporate environment the longer a deal takes to conclude the less likely it eventually will.

You have to strike while the iron is hot and while the opportunity is there with a feel-good factor.

Other Australian players will be looking at the fact that Will Genia, who would be in the top three players in the country and Queensland Reds' No. 1 commodity, is so disillusioned with the process that he makes the statement he's a free agent.
