JOC got the newcommer's award - forget what it is called.
there was also a new award for sevens player of the year. which was named after shawn mackay. that went to Debby Hodgkinson
For me the whole piano shifter/piano player thing.
All I have too say is BULLSHIT!! Giteau has been very average this international season. Absolute BULLSHIT.

I would have to say that the voting of the John Eales medal is the most relevant of all the codes awards in that the votes are from your peers.
No one but your fellow players knows what the game plan is and how you implement it.
To recieve the highest number of votes in this award is a true accolade.
Congratulations to Gits and all the other winners.
Yeh, voted on only by the players:
"Giteau received 190 votes, well ahead of injured lock Nathan Sharpe who was second (162), while last year's winner George Smith (161) was third, ahead of form prop Benn Robinson (132) and utility back Adam Ashley-Cooper (106).
The medal was voted on by Wallabies players on a 3-2-1 basis after each Test from the start of the 2008 Spring Tour to Europe through to the end of the 2009 Tri Nations series last month."
Congrats to Gits and all others
What a fitting epitaph for Shawn - he did a lot of coaching work with the women and really helped get them were they are now.
Nice to see a lady from WA take out the woman's award.
Basically not a shabby performance from us folks in the Wild Wild West.
the best of a bad bunch, perhaps
I guess I'll have to leave my prejudices at the door here. If his teammates voted him in, he's a deserving winner.
Did he also win best flyhalf?
