Peter de Villiers got his Springbok coaching career off to a dream start with a comprehensive win over the Six Nations champions in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
South Africa were far from their best, but still showed a willingness to keep the ball alive and offload in the tackle. The most reassuring feature of the win was the fact that all Peter de Villiers' selections seemed to pay off and repay the faith shown in them.
The decision to recall captain John Smit was possibly the most significant selection of all with the former Sharks man rampant when used as a ball runner in broken play.
The Springboks played a clinical first forty minutes as Butch James kicked five penalties and converted Conrad Jantjes' try to put the Boks into a 22-10 lead at the break.
John Smit's men hardly put a foot wrong in the first period despite...........

Butch had his kicking boots on thats for sure! a polished performance by their forwards with Spies a standout!

was a great game... i watched the entire thing because my parents had my old boss around here for dinner... EMBARASSING! i just watched rugby the whole time... and got in trouble for being anti-social:D
butch james had a great game and smit was so influential

Was very impressed with Butch's kicking. Selections could be better; but still a very good side.

General consensus seems to be that the Welsh were beaten, and should have been, but that the Boks got away with a lot. Anyone who saw the game care to comment?

i thought the ref was pretty decent as far as refs go... but then, i was supporting the boks, so call me biast if you want.
