Strong Player Interest in WA’s New National Competition Side
Player approval of the New National Competition (NNC) has again been shown, with 114 players from across Australia nominating to play for the soon to be named Perth team.
The NNC, which kicks off in August 2007, will see eight teams compete in its inaugural year - three teams from NSW, two Queensland teams and one team each from the ACT, WA and Victoria.
WA clubs have provided almost half of the nominees for the Perth team, including nine from Nedlands, eight from Palmyra, six from Rockingham and five from reigning Premiers Wests Subiaco.
There are also several eastern seaboard players who have nominated to play exclusively for the Perth side.
RugbyWA chief executive Peter O’Meara said the interest in the Perth side was indicative of the continued development of rugby in the State.
“It’s a great opportunity for aspiring players to try their hand at the professional level,” O’Meara said.
