Whoa... If the idea behind this is to eliminate racism, they might be doing their plans a great great disservice. They should be making a fuss about colour having no factor AT ALL in selection, as it is, they're elevating people who were against apartheid and want to include 10 non-white players.
This is going to stop racism is it? sure.
Another *&#%^$ "Captains Armband"....

Reasons that Rugby is not Soccer #45 :DQuote:

If this policy is put into effect next year, as has been suggested, South African rugby will go into a decline from which it might not recover. The impact on the Super 14 and Tri Nations would be devastating.
i hate these "quotas" that most south african sides are using. I know thats it's happening in cricket in south africa as well thats why kevin pieterson went to england. If your god enough you play thats how it should be (in my opinion)
Sure it wasn't to party with Warney ;)Quote:

There's also lots of talk about the Bokke changing names, as the old name is seen as a hold over from the bad old boer days. What a load of crap imho, though I will have a giggle if the Bokke get renamed after the flower :D
What is a silver fern again :eek:Quote:

Rugby in South Africa, although probably their most successful Sport is not their most popular. Soccer is and the support for soccer is mainly Black African based. The idea is to make Rugby popular amongst the blacks too and the only way to do that is to get more of them playing the game, to get more playing the game they need more Idols to look up to!
So... yes the idea is actually Noble but it travels a fine line between what we white South Africans call "reverse racism" and pure genius!
Ill sit on the fence on this one as i also feel Luke Watson is not the Man for the Captaincy role and the ANC are playing with a hornets nest in trying to push their agenda too quick too far!
Bring on the RWC!! only time will tell on this one!
Yes I agree Zimmeric. It is a very slippery road they are starting out on. Not only do I disagree in principle with affermative action (reverse racism/sexism in another form), which is essentiall saying "racism is OK if WE'RE doing it. Its only bad when YOU do it".
The name change has even less validity in any logical arguement. They haven't changed the name of the country, the towns, cities or provinces have they? NO, so unless you are going to do a total language change and change everything there is no case for changing names or emblems. The whole thing smacks of 'pay back' rather than advancement.
I don't know who it was but I have heard a quote from a black rights activist that goes something like "Just when they are ready for peace; we may discover that we are ready to hate".
It will do nothing for rugby and nothing for south africans, black or white.
