BANKWEST JUNIOR RUGBY GRAND FINALS
EMIRATES WESTERN FORCE MEDIA RELEASE
Wednesday, 4 September 2013
The Bankwest Junior Competition grand finals will commence this Saturday, 7 September at Edinburgh Ovals, Curtin University with five matches across the Under 13, Under 14 and Under 15 age groups.
The Under 16 grand final between Palmyra and Joondalup Blue will feature as the curtain raiser to the Rugby Championship match between the Wallabies and Argentina at Patersons Stadium on Saturday, 14 September.
Curtin Uni RUFC will host the finals this Saturday that will see five clubs represented over the five matches.
Wanneroo dominated the Under 13 and Under 14 grades, finishing minor premiers in all four competitions to contest the titles this weekend. Rockingham will also be looking to cap off a successful year with three teams competing in the Under 13 and Under 14 Gold premierships and Under 15’s. Joondalup Brothers, UWA and Southern Lions will be supporting one team each.
RugbyWA Manager Community Rugby, Andrew Hill says the grand finals reflect the growing nature of rugby in WA.
“Grand final time is always an exciting time of year and I’d encourage our rugby community to get along and have a look at some of the state’s rugby stars of the future,” he said.
“Wanneroo, Joondalup and Rockingham represent some of our bigger growth areas and junior bases in Perth and while the more traditional and established clubs will always be strong, it’s pleasing to see the hard work that has gone into developing these junior clubs is paying off.
“Saturday week also provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our Under 16’s – Palmyra and Joondalup Blue – to share the same pitch as the Wallabies, which is an opportunity I’m sure both sides will cherish.
“On behalf of the organisation, I’d like to wish all teams involved in Bankwest Junior Rugby grand finals the best of luck and congratulate the RugbyWA Juniors Executive and all our clubs on another successful season.
Congratulations to all teams who have made it through to contend the title and we look forward to seeing the RugbyWA community there to support the finalists.
