If you go Samsung Galaxy then get a cover that will protect it when it falls. Mrs Ecky's brand new Galaxy was in her handbag on the floor. It slid out and fell a good 4cm and the screen cracked! :S
Samsung Galaxy for me.
I have an iPhone 4s and like it
Mrs Jargs has a Samsung Galaxy II and is intending on upgrading to the 4 when it comes out soon
Each to their own though
I'd say most smartphones need a cover. I dropped my iPhone several times before a crack finally appeared but a friend of mine had a crack in his phone after dropping it once

I have an iPhone 5. Still great. Friend of mine has the nexus google phone though. That thing is the goods. If i didn't get my iphone last year i would have gotten that
Blackberry 9900 works for me, I'll update it to the BBz10 later this year!....each to their own....

Galaxy S3 for me moved over from iphones and i wont be going back. It took me about a month to get used to it and during that time i felt like skashing the bloody thing but now it works great.
Im running the HTC Windows 8X.
It's pretty App-less, but all in all I like it now Coach sorted my email out :approve:
Don't try to buy one from a chemist, butcher or cobbler. On my last attempt I found a mobile phone shop worked well for me.
Galaxy SII is Brilliant, but both my kids have the S3 and the screen is fragile i'd wait for the S4 to come out and ask relevant questions about durability.
For the record, i will be remaining with android for quite a while yet.
word on the street is windows mobile 8 rocks. however it would be an android device for me should work ever let us use anything other than BB's :(
Realistically I don't think there is a lot between phones nowdays. Whatever floats your boat in the way of UI
Is how I picked the iPhone initially. And then the iPhone 5 when my contract was up. because I already knew how to fly it

One thing I've noticed about the newer phones is that in order to increase the screen size, the phone size has increased. The pockets on my trousers haven't increased in size. If I do replace my Galaxy SII, that's something I'll check.
I would say the latest Galaxy is marginally ahead of the Iphone 5 on functionality, features etc, but the build quality is crap. It's very plasticky, whereas the Iphone is aluminum & glass and feels much more high end. Personally I would hold out until the Iphone 6 (or 5s) is released and see how that one goes.
I just signed up for the HTC one (not to be confused with the HTC oneXL)

There are countless reviews online, all of them raving about the build quality etc.
The key selling points for this phone (for me) are that it has an IR (infra-red) blaster, which can be used to change “any tv” (brilliant down the pub when the landlord puts the AFL on halfway through a ruggers game!!) – the camera allows this cool editing feature, where you take a series of shots, and can edit out the dickhead in the background, or even take a face from photo A and replace photo B where they were blinking or blurred… its super smart! it also has front facing speakers, something I cannot fathom hasnt occured before, an all aluminium designed body, an HD display and other shizer.
Outside that, smart phones are smart phones. They all gather emails, send texts and play words with friends just as well as each other, these days it comes down to the plan more than the phone!
