It does seem slightly encouraging, but there are stil a few things that would have fans of rectangular sports a bit nervous. My opinion is that anywhere is better then Subi at the moment
Hope that it doesnt go "Wembly" on whoever gets the contract to build the thing
Have a look at the PerthNow | Western Australia's premier news, sport, entertainment and lifestyle site website - I've just had a read of the 70 or so comments on the story & at least 95% are against the decision (wrong location, too long to build, will be too small by the time it's built.....).
Let's hope this is the final nail in the current government's coffin.......but would the alternative be any better? (Damn, must get these splinters out of my a*se!!!).
It's not just Rugby that is getting screwed.
The money wasted on the retractable crap that will be used once a year if we are lucky would be better spent elsewhere.
Unfortunately a Country Membership and Foxtel is looking much more attractive.

Are you happy Subiaco is the venue for Perth's new $1b sports stadium?
Yes, Subi's the obvious choice 27%
No - I'd prefer East Perth 24%
No - I'd prefer Burswood 31%
No, I'd prefer Cockburn 16%
I'd prefer Burswood, wans tPacker gonna chip in funds for 3 stadiums there. All in one spot..............stupid bloody government
What a farce! And Nearly a decade to build! Plenty of room at MES to put up some decent stands with undercover seating. Thats it! give MES a make over! (just until the new fiasco OVAL is finished)
(starts dreaming)I can't help it but think back to the 2003 world cup - was living in ACT at the time... Bruce Stadium... brilliant place to watch (even the cheap seats), REAL beer in cans, bars open until 15 minutes after the final siren.... Brumbies... (Snaps out of dream)
Welcome along normie.....great first post..
Keep an eye on here on how you can get a drink 15mins after you leave the ground..
All depends on how effective this retractable seating works...
i like the new stadium but i didnt read the 9 year wait before i voted.
9 years is stupid, what idiots planned that, how can it take 9 years to make.
we need to get some of those chinese guys who are building the world class stadiums for the beijing games, they have the right idea and they have built heaps of stadiums in the last 8 years.
Telstra Dome in Melbourne only took 28 months to build apparently. I read somewhere (possibly on TWF earlier) that the Government has only announced it early to deflect some of the flak they've been copping
It's too long. If the WF keep losing 2000 members each year, seriously upgrading MES will have to reconsidered, surely?
Yesterday's view of the rugby shat on Subi from a Great Height. I just wish the beer queue was shorter :-(
If there was the option for 'meh' that'd get my vote.
9 years is absurd and 60 thousand seats still doesn't sound like much of an improvement for AFL's sake.
I still think the retractable seating will be used for every Rectangular game played there contrary to what you all think.
Mitch Hardy acting CEO was broached on this subject by Mick Collis the other night - and the stance that RugbyWa has taken seems pragmatic - i.e. this government is not going to entertain a purpose built rectangular stadium - so they have to go with the flow and see what other opportunities present themselves - however he did talk about a temporary stadium he had seen in Dubai or somewhere and that this concept and a few others deserved a bit of attention by RugbyWA etc..(like how feasible etc..)
My two cents worth - the Carpenter Government robbed us of 25 million. 9 years wait for the new stadium - well who cares - there's a lot of state and federal governments between then and now - anything could happen.
The other MAJOR point that hasn't been broached is
"Who will run the stadium?"
If the WAFC get the management rights again we are well and truely screwed.
