the article talks about the 2013 Lions, not the 2015 RWC. I think its a given Deans will be coach for the Lions, the time to ditch him was after the terrible Scotland and Wales tests, or maybe after the Eden Park scoreless debacle.
He kept holding on by the skin of his teeth, every dire performance backed up with one slightly less dire but usually a win such as the come from behind home games against Boks and Pumas. It is possible they would have sacked him after Brisvegas Bledisloe, but the draw saved him for the Spring Tour. And the England win after the France fiasco probably saved him again.
These individual moments all saved Deans:
Harris kick vs Wales (after siren ?)
Cooper handing kick to Beale (after water boy came out)
Carters missed drop goal after siren
Poms not kicking for goal four times late in second half
Italians missed penalty for a draw
Beales try vs Wales on siren
And the other stat that probably saved him was the ABs dropping four certain tries over the touchline in the scoreless debacle. It really should have been a 50-0 scoreline.
This thread has taken an odd turn...
Hopefully the team can be fully fit for the Lions Tour and make a compelling case for Deans to stay for RWC 2015. Not an endorsement of him in preference to anyone. Just saying.......
