Around 2,000 in the crowd from what I understand as well.
If anything we must be leading the crowd numbers!!
The crowd to quote Rex Hunt was as "flat as a schitzen carters hat". There was maybe about 10 other people who were supporting Spirit and less than that for the Rams. The SA Rugby community basically watched with no emotion shown to either side, even though the game wasn't too bad. This was always going to be a problem with a neutral game.
Lucky you didn't have to choose between those "other" Magpies and The Spirit on Saturday hey Ox, good planning by AFL not to clash ;)
Looks like we can have 4 home games next season in that case
Agreed Jargs.
Would probably help if the ARU sorts the comp out sooner than 2 minutes before it's supposed to start
Tell you what though, I give credit to the South Australians for turning up to support rugby in such numbers, even though they plainly were not supporting either team. Shows a pretty good commitment to the game.
I have to wonder if we get a smaller test at NIB next year, could the Adelaide Oval be a Springbok test venue?
Even more audaciously, with the ground holding 54,000- would a Bledisloe be out of the question? After visiting Adelaide during the RWC in 2003, they seem to draw a pretty partisan Aussie home crowd. I can see a full-house for a one-off event there, and a very large Australian support base in the stands, unlike Melbourne or Perth, which would be like an All Black home game.
On a side note, with a bit of forward thinking à la the AFL re: Gold Coast and GWS; maybe the ARU should've placed a fully-supported NRC team in Adelaide, for future development of the game, regardless of the bidding process?
