Honey Badger tastes victory: Nick Cummins helps Coca Cola West Red Sparks record win

A WIN for the Badger!

Nick Cummins made his long-awaited debut in Japan’s Top League over the weekend, contributing to the Coca Cola West Red Sparks’ 15-9 victory over NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes.

Cummins missed the Red Sparks season opener last week to attend the wedding of his sister in Australia. He had previously played two trial matches.

The Red Sparks trailed 9-8 at half-time but responded with a second half-try to man-of-the-match Toyota Hataman.

Cummins was named on the bench, but played a significant role as the match wore on.

Meanwhile, Robbie Deans collected his first win as coach of the Panasonic Wild Knights. Assisted by the deft goal kicking of Berrick Barnes, the Wild Knights defeated Kubota Spears 47-22.

“The first half was good, the second not so good,” Deans said.

“It’s good when players are able to express themselves.”
