I am a first generation Australian, My father was from Wales ( Caerfyrddin near Swansea) he played rugby (as did everyone in the 70’s.) He moved out here and played for WAIT (Curtin’s old name….I think) before he died in 1989. I have always enjoyed international rugby, but it wasn’t until the force came along that I became interested in Super Rugby.
Caerfyrddin - otherwise known to the saes as Carmarthen - is somewhere I know quite well. It means Merlin's Fort - Merlin of King Arthur fame (caer = fort; myrddyn is the proper old welsh name that has been anglicised to merlin). There used to be an old oak tree in the middle of town which mythology held that "when the oak tree falls then Carmarthen will drown" (it's on the banks of the Towy river). So the town council had it cast in concrete and surrounded by a steel fence. It was in the middle of the road which was a bit inconvenient - a sort of roundabout with only one through road. Anyway, the last time I was there they had taken what was left that approximated to wood to the local museum.
So my background is that I played rugby in west wales, and will still support the Llanelli scarlets even if they have been a bit poor this season. But of course the principle team I now support is the Force.
Stats are looking a bit different to those of the SMH how they are disproved over and over again - would have been more interesting to have broken UK down - also surprised by the lack of Islanders - there are so many at club level and you see heaps of Maori/Islanders at the matches
Born in Uganda - Dad played for West Nile RFC with Idi Amin (amongst others). That's East Africa, not Saffa. Then 10 pound poms' journey to WA when I was almost 3. All my rugby born & bred in WA.
I played for WAIT (yes, Curtin's old name) in the early 80's! 1981 from memory... distant memory...
make sure you vote in the poll
:iconrofl:
Born in Victoria, spent time in SA living at a uni college with an ex Fijian International, who taught me a bit about rugby.
Born in UK Moved to Australia when I was 19 Didn't follow rugby in Uk. Lived in Qld and NSW then moved to Perth followed the Force from the begining
29 out of 54 voters are born in Australia
2 out of 54 are saffa's
Friends, don't worry about the past. It's where you are now that counts.
We are all of one creed, we are of one spirit, we are Sandgropers.

That 'Song'(?) still makes me cringe :(
i think to be fair the Africans should be pooled together as although they may all have lived in different countries most still supported the Boks till they came across the puddle.
the way i read it there are 5 registered africans & 1 ugandan that cannot vote so theres at least 6 :D :D
scuse my ignorance, what's saffa's?
