Allianz Stadium (or whatever Moore Park calls itself these days) is being rebuilt, so the Waratahs need a home.
The Olympic stadium is probably a bit expensive (plus, 75,000 capacity will make their sub-10,000 crowds look very sparse), and the SCG probably refused point-blank. There's then a whole group of stadia with capacities of 20-25k (all the rugby league grounds), and Penrith is one of the newer ones.

Lets not forget the handout RA are getting from the NSW state government. $60m over 12years to compensate them for (wait for it) low seating capacity whilst the stadiums are re-built.
The current plan for the Tahs in 2019 has 8 home games (according to people in Lindfield):
- three matches at the new Western Sydney Stadium (the old Parramatta Stadium)
- three matches at the SCG (TBC)
- one at a suburban Sydney ground, e.g. Brookie or Concord or North Sydney or Leichhardt (TBC)
- one at a regional NSW stadium (TBC)
Apparently, the SCG Trust wanted to hold the Waratahs to the letter of their hire agreement and play as many Waratahs matches as possible at the SCG in 2019, while the Allianz Stadium is being rebuilt; perhaps not surprising as the SCG Trust pays the NSWRU $2M per year to play at Allianz Stadium and the Trust has to keep its Gold and Platinum members happy.
Would love to know on what date the possibility of playing in Western Sydney was first raised....
Apparently, discussions between NSWRU and the SCG Trust over where the Waratahs will play their home games in 2019, 2020 and 2021 have been going on since early this year (and perhaps earlier).
The SCG Trust wants the home games played at the SCG unless other scheduling gets in the way, and the discussions were becoming a little heated. Originally, NSWRU was thinking about games at other Sydney venues such as North Sydney and Brookvale (in spite of accessibility and parking issues there) and at regional venues in NSW.
Specific ideas about playing one or more games at Western Sydney Stadium appear to have crystallized in the past month or two.
not on the correct thread at all, but wondering if you think the John Eales medal still carries the cachet it once did. Or should it be called the Bloke who didn't stand up for WF medal? I know it's supposed to be an honour, and no doubting Pocock is every one's darling, but do you think the name has been tarnished somewhat since last year?
Despite Pocock's performance, given the Wallabies recent performance, it's weight is not what it once was
Seeing as he did not play all the games sums up the standard of the rest of the players
It feels like an empty hollow award tarnished by the reputation of a man out of touch with the Australian Rugby public. Eales symbolises RA evil in many ways. In saying that it's good to see Pocock take it out again in a landslide, just shows how shit the rest of the team is.
