Or an STI
God forbid! If that happened, that would put them on even footing with the Force but with control over Australian involvement. Frankly, a Newcastle team will be difficult enough. Involving the 'Tahs would be a big jump back into the cesspit with mouth open.
Reasonable possibility. Could give Twiggy an interesting opportunity if he wanted to go hard and really lift the standard of the comp. Not sure how that would gel with development in the respective locations, but hardly an insurmountable issue. Might be splashy enough to attract Japan too. But the key would be to spread the talent around...reckon with players being a bit motivated, an auction/draft system might be a go.
Player managers calling Newcastle doesn't guarantee them a place with the team.
"how do you feel about Kuala Lumpur?"
He has cancelled it for this year
The intention is to bring it back next year.
But RA have been talking about a 6 team comp that included the Sunwolves who are an international side, and the Force. So if RA were to turn around now and shun us, we would be without a comp this year. There is absolutely nothing stopping them from screwing over the Force and then refusing to let us join, leaving us completly screwed for 2020.
All I am saying is does anyone actually believe that the RA want us in their new comp for 2020 or is it all just a big fat lie so they can shun us and have their little party together?
So what? It is not like GRR was cancelled only because there was the promise of a pseudo-SR. It was cancelled because there was little prospect of international travel this year and probably because there needed to be certainty for planning purposes.
If it subsequently turns out there is some sort of domestic thing, whatever. But the state borders might stuff it, or RA might stuff it, but it is not like WA is losing some big commitment that had been made...at worst, RA dicking them again might stiffen their resolve to forge their own path. Personally, I am pretty ambivalent anyway about yet another meaningless showcase series, especially one that is unlikely to be anything more than a charity fundraiser for RA. IMO they should play a real version of the NRC, not some BS pseudo-comp.
How do you know that? The timing of it must be a huge coincidence then. The GRR comp gets cancelled immediately after RA announce a 6 team comp featuring the Sunwolves and Force. This is 2 weeks after they suspended it on the basis they would do "all they can" to complete the season. Seems like too much of a coincidence to me, but I guess theyve got a few people hook line and sinker.
Or, more accurately, GRR gets cancelled four days after the supposed domestic competition should have played its first game...https://www.rugby.com.au/news/2020/0...on-replacement.
That was when it became apparent rugby was done for the year. Everything after that is a thought bubble, not to be taken seriously until we see what we see.
NRL restart confirmed for May 28, approved by government.
Hopefully this means there will be some form of Rugby this year even if it is a domestic competition.
NSW Government is talking about letting sport at the grassroots back to playing in June. RL has already got their dates at that level confirmed for return to play.
WA must be close to a resumption as the case rate is minimal compared to NSW.
In terms of RugbyWA, though, it might be limited to amateur club rugby.
Perhaps some hope for the local scene.
But .... from Mark Mark McGowan yesterday: “I would have thought the border to the east would be in place for at least six months.”
So that could mean no Western Force (and for that matter no Eagles or Dockers either) in 2020.
Who knows?
The AFL is looking at some kind of conference system. McGowan has welcomed the idea of one "bubble" being based in WA. But with the proviso that ES teams have to quarantine for 2 weeks. Same as the NRL Warriors. Bearing in mind a resumption of AFL &/or Rugby is likely 8+ weeks away, dispensations might be feasible by then. The NRL is hoping that by 28th of May things have improved enough to allow quarantined interstate charter flights.
