Queensland's two Under 16 sides have opened the 2009 National Championships in Sydney with convincing wins.
Defending champions Queensland Red comfortably progressed to the next round by beating Victoria 50-17, while 2008 runners-up Queensland White overcame Western Australia 65-13.

Queensland White 65 (Taliauli 4, Palupe 3, Kerevi, Bell tries; Bell 7 cons, 2 pens ) bt Western Australia 13 (Oliver, Matt tries; Rehutai pen)
In other Division 1 matches played today at St Ignatius’ College, Riverview, Sydney Juniors beat the Brumbies 57-19 and NSW Schools beat NSW Country 38-7, while in Division 2 South Australia beat Tasmania 65-7 and National Indigenous beat Northern Territory 78-15.
The championships continue on Wednesday, October 7, when Queensland White will play Sydney Juniors and Qld Red will play NSW Schools.
