Tuqiri cited for dangerous tackle
Wallabies winger Lote Tuqiri will appear before a judicial committee today after being cited for a dangerous tackle on New Zealand captain Richie McCaw in their Tri-Nations match in Auckland on Saturday.
would have been too good to be true if he had gotten away with that one...
He'll cop a game off two holiday because of that one. No one thought that was anything but dangerous.
I think the result was dangerous but I also think that there was absolutely no intent involved either.
As I mentioned elsewhere, I think that McCaw was as much to blame as Tuqiri.
McCaw quite obviously dropped his shoulder to get the penalty and it backfired on him. Tuqiri's tackle was driving upwards and was not the reason that the tackled player ended up head first.
Certainly it was ugly but I honestly think it will be an injustice if Tuqiri gets anything more than a cautionary reprimand.
maybe it might create an opening for Stanners to South Africa
Burgs, kinda looked the same as the Gregan tackle this year to me, he copped a week, so logically Lote will cop a similar punishment.
But of course he'll have to play the 'SANZAR spin the wheel and lose' game first.
Nah, I disagree Sage, Gregan brought him to the apex and then "let" him turn his head south and he was solely responsible for the outcome.
Tuqiri was in the act of a pure tackle for mine and McCaw's actions also influenced the way he landed.
Also Gregans punishment was influenced on his past record.
Will definatley be a dart board outcome though.
As I mentioned elsewhere, B O'D will be looking on with great interest I would think!
One thing is for sure, I think I will vomit if I hear one more Ref say, "You want to be very careful Richie; that was very close Richie; you have done that a few times now Richie!"
Bloody hell, just send him OFF!!!
Why should McCaw be able to push the line so often (and give away penalties) without being held accountable?
It's as if the Ref's are in awe of him and don't want to be the ones lampooned for holding him as accountable as every other mear mortal!
He is an outstanding player and like every other Openside he is duty bound to push the limits however, he consistently gives away penalties and is never held accountable, that is double standards.
Personally I thought it was Giteau that turned the highlanders player, but that's not what we're talking about. True about previous records, Tuqiri got done last year for a dangerous tackle as well so it won't be a great outcome for him I think. I mentioned BOD at the pub last night as the kiwis reacted badly to the Tuqiri tackle.. All in good fun of course.
Have to agree with you on McCaw, god they let him get away with murder in the ruck. I'm quite sure Elsom does the same things and gets pinged every time.
just heard - out til 2nd November
Tuqiri receives five-match ban
Wallabies winger Lote Tuqiri has been banned for five matches for a dangerous tackle on All Blacks captain Richie McCaw during Saturday's Tri-Nations loss in Auckland.
thanks max!!!
That is a disgrace and conspiracy mongers will be getting more ammunition for "McCaw's Rules". Fair enough a suspension but five is ridiculous.
Oh well, at least we will get to see some new faces play now.
Burgs where you watching the same game? Tuqiri DROVE him into the ground. That is the only thing to consider because that’s what makes it a dangerous tackle. No driving makes it a reckless tackle. McCaw was only trying to stop a possible S#8@ load of hurt. He only gets the remaining Tri matches off so not much. If he did some major damage I think he would have got a lot more and he may have to take up the resent NRL offer. Good to see so many TWF faces at the pub.
So the 1 remaining tri-nations and the whole EOYT...
Doesn't seem fair to me. Can you double or nothing on the SANZAR wheel of justice?
from what I have read isnt it the rest of the Tri Nations and first of the mid week games of the spring tour..
Hard to say what one you were watching through the black and white haze Sparko, but what I saw was Tuqiri use his legs to drive through the tackle as you are taught to from the time you tie on a boot. If you stop the tackle at that point both would have crashed to ground in a perfect tackle. However, McCaw dropped his shoulder to try and milk the penalty and cocked it up and, in my eye, is as guilty for the result as Tuqiri was.
There was no intent and at worst was just careless and maybe worthy of two weeks. Different strokes for different blokes, the SANZAR Judicial Dart Team is still in operation :S
Fortunately it will have no bearing on the outcome of the 3N and God help Wales in six matches time!!!
Abridged from Rugby Heaven: The suspension means Tuqiri will miss the final Tri Nations against South Africa, the Waratahs' first three Super 14 matches (assume they mean APC?) and the first European tour match against Osprey in Swansea, Wales.
He'll be available for a Test against Wales in Cardiff on November 4.
I'll put a clip of the tackle up in a little while ...
(Edit: I merged the 2 NewsBot Tuqiri threads...)
Edit again: Anyone remember roughly what time the tackle happened?
Burgs, He was unlikely to play the APC anyway I would have thought.. So 1 game then.
Coach, 60th maybe?
Ta - will cut after I get kids to bed...
