Any out-of-work players we can nab?!
Hmm, the Lions, without the TV income from Super Rugby and the exodus that is likely to occur of what few decent players they have, will have to play off against the worst performing SA team at the end of the season to regain their position.Quote:
The Lions will sit out of the 2013 Super Rugby season and in their place will be the Southern Kings for one year.
A promotion/relegation match will be held next season to decide who plays in the last South African Super Rugby franchise slot.
I've a feeling that it's just as well this only goes on for a couple of seasons, as either the Lions will never come back up or the Lions and Kings will keep swapping. What SA internationals will want to play for a team which is likely to only spend every other year in the top level?
We could do with an experienced lock, just trying to remember who were the locks for the Lions? surely one of them could be an option?
The Lions have played Wikus van Heerden a fair bit. He was originally an openside flanker. Too short and already capped by SA unfortunately. Hard worker though. Franco van der Merwe has played a fair bit in the second row in recent years. I think he used to play blindside flanker for them too a few years ago.
We are only really looking for locks and scrum halves and I doubt we'd get any good options from the Lions.
What about "Elton Jantjies" as a development player ??
Been saying that for months

Politics and sport don't mix
Jantjies has toured but is uncapped, would have to sign between now and the 25th as I don't think he is listed in the 22 this week. Somehow I don't think that is a signature a young man would give on the verge of representing his country.
