Nick ‘The Honey Badger’ Cummins on the Wallabies and T-bone steak

NICK Cummins has revealed he fears being more famous for his “Honey Badger” antics than he is for his rugby ability.
The 27-year-old Western Force winger has become a cult hero on the back of his hilarious one-liners and knockabout personality but he has struggled to make an impact this season out wide in an underperforming Super Rugby team.
Cummins faces an almighty fight to add to his 15 Australian test caps in World Cup year and, while he will continue showcasing his unique persona, is also conscious of the need for his footy to do the talking and not letting the Badger become bigger than the Wallaby.
“Yeah mate, I feel that quite a bit and I don’t want that,” Cummins told foxsports.com.au after being unveiled as an ambassador for Beef Australia.
“Because first things first, I’m a rugby player and I want that to be the main thing.
“It’s nothing about trying to get some fame or status or anything like that.
“It’s [the profile] sort of happened just from being myself and it does surprise you, that people come up and have a yarn.
“But I think that’s what’s good about it, that they feel like they can come up and have a yarn — they’re not worried about getting shut down or whatever.
“I try and be open to everyone and try and have a conversation with whoever.”
Cummins freely admits that his form is not where he wants it to be after working his way back to full fitness from an ankle operation.
It is never easy being an outside back on a losing team and the Force are dead last on the ladder with a two win, 10 loss record.
But the upset win over the Waratahs in the Force’s last start — followed by a heart to heart with Wallabies coach Michael Cheika — has lifted Cummins’ spirits as he tries to fight his way through a logjam of test wing options including Henry Speight, Rob Horne, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Joe Tomane, Tom English and Taqele Naiyaravoro.
“You’ve got to call a spade a spade and, as of now, I’m not sure if I am worthy of a spot,” Cummins said.
“I had a good chat with him [Cheika] and he wants me to get my hands on the ball more and I agree totally.
“There’s no hard feelings, it’s just rip in, get it done and deserve it.”
That’s enough of the serious stuff.
Cummins was also keen to talk food on the back of his new role with Beef Australia.
He said he was “proud as” to take on the gig and it was a natural fit given his diet.
“We’ve got a truck load of kids in the family and you’ve got to feed them right.
“Beef has got 13 essential nutrients, including iron and zinc, which is crucial for your mental and physical performance.
“When you’re out there, bouncing about, trying to make a few tackles, you need a bit of gusto and mental clarity.”
Cummins said he could also walk the walk when it came to cooking a steak.
“I don’t mind a nice little juicy T-bone with a bit of mushroom sauce.
“It’s one of those things that brings people together, especially in my family.
“Medium-rare mate, would probably be the one I’d go for. When it comes to meat I go all right.
“The sheila seems to enjoy it when I pull out a big slab and whack it on.”

he popped up on 92.9 last night too....... so Im told!
Did you notice how neatly his head/hair taping was - black tape in absolute dead centre of white tape and perfectly straight - done by the make-up room and not the team stapper.
So is he off to France next season as well? Heard something on the radio today.
