Never done this before, have no idea how it works and even less of an idea who to pick. But Dogs Derros are in the league.

A few tips for newbies from my last season -
1. Look at the fixtures and select players based on who their teams are playing next. For example, assuming the cheetahs are the "weakest team" and they are playing the "strongest team" Crusaders or similar, then you would probably want to load up your team with Crusaders (5 players) if you can afford to or atleast in vital positions such as locks (for lineout grabs/ball carries/tackles), backrow (tackles/ball carries/lineout grabs) and points kicker.
2. Try select a flyhalf (who normally is their team points kicker) as your inside centre that way you have a choice of two regular points receivers (and will come in handy when during the bye weeks).
3. In most cases, my subs are worth about 2 units or thereabout. This allows signifiant spending on the starting XV. If one of your stating XV is a late withdrawal, tough luck but its not a common occurance so not worth pondering about.
4. Watch out for the bye weeks ESPECIALLY noting your captain's team. Your captain's score doubles so is essential you have a captain playing every week. In my case, the captain is almost always a flyhalf. My reasoning being that he is generally the points kicker, is a ball carrier, and takes on several tackles and therefore is ALMOST always guaranteed of scoring decent points.
Having said that, others who tend to get consistent good points are the top backrow players such as Smith, So'oialo etc.
5. Select your team on Thursday if possible. Generally, the Fantasy site alerts you to an injured player (you'll notice when looking at your team sheet) but wise to have a look to see if your players are starting.
You don't need to spend oodles of time online sorting your team. Generally 15 minutes is more than enough.
6. Finally, where you have injuries to key players as well as byes to contend with, sacrifice a prop or hooker (or even a 2nd rower) to free up some finance to purchase a desired player/s. Forwards, especially the front row, are always expendable. ;)
Disclaimer
These are in no way a guarantee of success. As we know, players/teams have their off day and play poorly in/lose games they are expected to win.
Ultimately, its good fun if you're not fussed.
Tip 1 is the real secret. I might add i look for high scoring games and pick players out of them. (eg: NZ vs NZ game, Anyone vs Cheetahs)

hey i've just noticed i can not view any of the other teams in the leauge.
is it just me or are others having the same issue?
My expierience from last year is that it doesn't let you see other teams selected until the competition begins
done!!!...
Dammit, Andre was bloody good value for an 80 minute goalkicking flyhalf.......now I have to go and shuffle my entire backline!
Rightio, after a pretty retarded effort four seasons ago, here we go again :D
See how we go with this lot, still got a point/dollar in hand too.
The only Bye conflict is in the 2nd Row but should be able to work through that one.
Happy for any tips for the common good though

that is a pretty nice team you have there Burgs
pretty balanced side there burgs , a lot of people seem to have AAC ....'

I think AAC is pretty lowly ranked in actual Rugby terms but not sure in regard to how they rank them here, was at 4 or 4.5 I think.
I've taken a punt on Guildford and more so on NZ U20's star Cruden who is widely tipped to start at Flyhalf for the Canes. Word form NZ is that Weepu is to stay at #9 this season so they can develop Cruden. Those two saved a few points for the bench etc.
Do players values change during the season according to performance?
They do increase and decrease with performance as the season progresses
AAC is a steal at 4-4.5 points
