WESTERN Force star Scott Fava has not stopped smiling since 2.36pm on Monday when his first child was born.
"I won't forget that time. It's etched in my memory forever. It was an awesome experience,'' said the tough forward.
The birth of Poppy Coco Embi was extra special for Fava and wife Sarah, who four months ago told The Sunday Times of their emotional ride to conceive by in-vitro fertilisation.
They wanted to share their joy in the hope that it would help other couples.
"It was all worth it, all the pain, the pills, everything,'' Mrs Fava said. "Everything was a breeze after that. It was a cinch.''
Poppy's birth came in a week when Australia's population hit 21 million.
The milestone is thought to have been achieved about 7.32pm and 58 seconds on Friday, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics online clock that estimates the country's resident population.
The estimate is based on an increase of one person every 1min and 45sec by averaging one birth every 1min 56sec; one death every 3min 59sec; and a net gain of one international migrant every 3min and 15sec.
Poppy's name was chosen by Mrs Fava, who had loved the name since she was a child.
"When she was born Sarah called out, `I've got my Poppy' and there was no way I was going to change anything after that. It was gold,'' Fava said.
"She's a little angel. We're totally rapt with her.''
