A Coaches job is to get the best out of the players he has under his command, to develop game and session plans. The only people privy to see Coach in action are either players or committee members and neither should be voicing their opinions or concerns publicly.

The one thing that I struggle to understand when people slate the coaches and say they aren't good enough and what ever.

Coaches in any sport are a bit like a trainer in boxing you can give the best game plan and instructions to your charger/s but if they can't or won't execute the plans then whose fault is that!

Couple of years ago I happened to referee both games between the same two teams during the home/away season. The teams were so close that each won its respective home game.

As usual, I invited both coaches to chat after the game if they wished to, as I always stay for the speeches/presentations after a prem grade match.

One of the coaches took up the offer to chat about certain aspects of the match; why I ruled what I ruled and what I saw that he could take back to training to work on etc. The other chose not to, even though his team lost in one of the games.

I found that odd. Why wouldn't you take up an offer? Did he already know everything there was to know? They didn't win the GF that year, so maybe not....

True. We see it a lot in today's sport where the coach gets blamed if the players under perform. Soccer and to a lesser extent AFL moves coaches on quickly.

But I also believe that a good coach will get the best out of their players and if not they need to move on. The Aus cricket team saga could be a good example.
