Guildford
When: Saturday the 31st March 2007 9am-12pm
Where: Canning Bridge course
This is the biggest sporting event on the PSA calender and no one can argue otherwise with crowds last year at 17 000 they are expecting 20 000+ with 3 schools in contention to win the ultimate race of a rowers life. 8 months of pain has gone into this season. With the early starts and sarcrifises made by all its no wonder to understand why there is so much anticipation on the result. For alot of the 1st VIII this is the moment they have been waiting for since year 8.
The favourites for the 1st VIII race this year are
1st Trinity - jump out of the blocks and finish strong (won 3 races)
2nd WESLEY - poor starts and come home with a bang (won 2 of the 7 regattas)
3rd Christchurch - went to nationals woopie do. not really in the same league as Wesley and Trinity
4th,5th,6th -....... Anyone except guildford
7th - Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (sheep noises)
The other big race is the 10A VIII race. This is the future 1st VIII race. Two crews a stand out this year
Scotch and Trinity
with Hale, Aquinas, CCGS, Wesley, GGS making up the other places
But with the results of late the favourites will be
1. Scotch
2. Trinity
3.Wesley/Hale
5.CCGS
6. Aquinas
7. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
This race will be almost as good as the 1st VIII race with how close the finish will be.
So if next saturday morning you dont have anything to do. then why not be apart of THE BIGGEST sporting event in any school sport. + there is free food![]()
Is Guilford seriously that bad at the moment pruc?
I haven't seen any results from this season but they used to always be at least midfield across the age groups.
17 years and counting for Scotch![]()

serious? wow. learn sumthing knew everyday. burgs just to let u know.. a scotch guy beat te psa ergo record. he pulled a 6.10 beating previous record by 4seconds
Yeah mate, 1st VIII over 2km, Year 9 VIII over 1km and everything else over 1500m.
I seem to rcall hearing the Yr 9s went to 1500m but hadn't heard of the other changes.
Things certainly change mate, we used to do one ergo a year let alone have records, had never heard of a cleaver blade and as for Zoot Suits
Pretty impressive stuff on the record.
Can't remember times that we did but our HOTR win was around the 6.15 from memory.

The Scotch 1st 8 are looking pretty fine at the moment - It wouldn't be a shock if they took it home.
Plus last year the year nines won every single one of their races, and this year have only lost one, in which they came 2nd.
The guy who beat the record for 2000m ergo was Elliot Bannon. He was new to rowing this year and is already in the 1st 8 and already holds the PSA record at 6:10. He aims to break 5:00.
Will you pullers get off the TWF site to conduct your mutual admiration society? In the immortal word of Shaun, it's prosaic.
to break 5? no rowing in australia gets it under that. the best guy in WA gets 5.55.Originally Posted by Mtbeaver

interesting fact no one in the 10AVIII who win the race before head of the river has ever won head of river.
wesley 1st VIII will be strong for the next few years. we are starting to create a winning culture. and now our swimmers lost inters everyone at school is talking about rowing![]()
I'm guessing he means to break into the 5 minutes, ie under 6:00.
That's a mighty effort for a first year oarsman.
One thing to do it on a machine though, totally different to apply it to the blade in a moving boat.
Our crew was founded on rowing at least three quarter weight wherever we went as we struggled to sit it up any lighter!
Lighten up fulv, many of the states best Rugby players were Rowers at school, including Wobber.
From memory he and his lock partner were stroke side of a huge Scotch 1st IV in '87!
Another week and it will be all over for the year.![]()
