After a successful inaugural season last year, RugbyWA’s Beach 5’s tournament returns on Saturday, 16 November to kick start the Summer Sevens Series. The action-packed abridged format will again take place at the beautiful Scarborough Beach, giving teams the opportunity to have some fun in the sun with their friends. Sunday 16 November will play host to the U16 and U18 competitions, while the seniors will compete for the Beach Eagle and Beach Disco Ball on Saturday, 22 November. The popular tournament saw an impressive20 teams register last year, with the Southern Lions taking out the Beach Eagle, and the Wanneroo Divas claiming the Beach Disco Ball. The shortened version of the game means there are no lineouts or scrums ensuring teams are treated to a fast-paced high scoring affair each time they play. With team sizes reduced from six players to five, competing teams can expect a lot more room to move around the sand. RugbyWA’s Sevens coordinator Nicole Serafini said it’s great to have the exciting tournament back for another year, with both players and spectators set to enjoy the event. “The tournament gives players another fantastic opportunity to play outside the regular season, whilst featuring a fun vibe and party atmosphere,” she said. “We received very positive feedback from both players and spectators about last year’s tournament, who are again keen to take part in this year’s event. “The other exciting aspect to this tournament is that it attracts athletes from all sporting backgrounds. “Last year, we had a number of AFL players try their hand at beach rugby – this year we have a number of hockey players taking part as well. “We found that people love the exciting version of the game and encourage anyone interested in trying rugby to get involved at this fun event.” Each team is restricted to 10 players so teams are urged to register early to avoid missing out. - See more at: http://www.rugbywa.com.au/article/be....qUfcoZGl.dpuf
