18 Seconds
18 Minutes
18 Hours
18 Days
Read this one and thought there may be some interest out there:
In terms of shooting time elapsed, what is the average lifetime of a rifle barrel?
To perhaps make it easier I have included the poll to help you think.

I put 18 hours, just a guess![]()

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
what size bore?
what colour barrel?
How long is the barrel? (Although I'm often told that it's the width, not the length of the barrel that's important!!!!)

As it happens....yes!!! A 4wd - but I get full use of it and can fit over 500 bottles of wine in it, if I have to!!Originally Posted by Flamethrower
For all the questions: it doesn't matter, the poll options are great enough to allow for variables.

I take 18 minutes.
Are you including sporting/recreational AND millitary ?Originally Posted by Burgs
I've chosen 18 minutes purely because I can't see our armed forces changing barrels every 18 seconds...
Chuck Norris has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 1983 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoly card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game Uno.
Muzzle velocity of a bullet is (roughly) up to about 1500 metres a second. Give it starts at 0, we'll assume an average barrel velocity of 750 metres / second
A bit short perhaps, but lets say the rifle barrel is 50cm long.
So, each bullet spends 0.5/750 seconds traversing the barrel = 1/1500th of a second.
18 seconds of barrel life will give you 1500*18 shots = 27,000 rounds fired
18 minutes = 1,620,000 rounds fired
18 hours = 97,200,000 rounds fired
18 days = 41,990,400,000 rounds fired
A 1.0 metre barrel would halve those figues, 18 seconds is looking good to me...
Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
Or WTF option. I hope burgs has tested this on his property, so we have accurate figures to rely on, but coaches analysis seemed good enough for me, 18 seconds for me
when will we know the answer? I can't stand the suspense any more!!
