TIMANA Tahu may be breathing down his neck but Berrick Barnes has shown he won't surrender his Wallabies inside-centre spot without an almighty fight.
The Queenslander responded to the increasing challenge from the former NRL star with an impressive performance in attack and defence during the first Test against France.
Tahu turned in another strong showing for Australia A in their 50-13 win over Fiji yesterday in Brisbane but Barnes was clearly one of the best on the field the night before.
Star five-eighth Matt Giteau said Barnes provided little things to the team that people didn't see.

That's assuming Tahu is in front of Cross...
Would have prefered to see Mortlock stay at #13 and run Crossy at #12 on Saturday to expand on his Australia A experience there last year.
At that late stage of the match his hard straight running could have really opened them up and Mortlock was geting too tired to do that effectively anymore.
"Bloody oath we did!"
Nathan Sharpe, Legend.
he's playing much better than his first game for the Wallabies!! well done Berrick
Be There. Be Heard. Be The Force Behind The Force
admittedly, tahu has had a good australia a season, from what i have seen. but he is nowhere near berrick, or crossy for that matter. he will be. one day. but he doesnt have the experiance yet!
A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

I reckon nothing that the Aus A boys has done yet is worth a hill 'o beans, because they've obviously been playing teams who aren't as strong, even as the teams thehave been playing. Tahu has run rampant for sure, but there have been holes galore and the running has been pretty easy. This week will be the acid test. The NZ Maoris will be a true test od whether Tim Tam has the huevos to play international footy this year.
Till then' he's just a pretty runner who knows how to find a hole in a seive.
Same goes (unfortunately) for Browny, Drew and a bunch of other boys in that squad.
