EUROPEAN champions Munster named Australian Tony McGahan as their new director of coaching after Declan Kidney quit to take charge of Ireland.

McGahan had been Munster's defence and backs coach since March 2006 and played a key role in the team's two European Cup triumphs in the last three seasons.

The 35-year-old has also coached Australia A and under-19 sides, as well as Brisbane Broncos in rugby league.
