Naughty boy.

England and Bath prop Matt Stevens has failed a drug test and has been suspended from all competition.

The South African-born forward failed the test after Bath's Heineken Cup match against Glasgow in December 2008.

Stevens has been removed from England's squad for the forthcoming Six Nations, with manager Martin Johnson considering a replacement.

The 26-year-old has admitted he took a prohibited substance but insisted it was not a performance-enhancing drug.

Stevens has not revealed what he had taken, but said he took the drug while out with friends and that his use of the substance had become a problem.

He has already been attending drug counselling sessions.

Stevens could be facing a suspension of up to two years under World Anti-Doping Agency regulations.

But for a first offence, if a player can fully establish the use of such a specified substance was not intended to enhance sport performance the sanction could range between a warning and a one-year ban.
