So Dr Fong has come out and publicly sledged the other codes in an attempt to get an upgrade of Subi at the expense of MES:
http://www.thewest.com.au/default.as...ntentID=122620WAFC chairman Neale Fong expressed regret but not surprise that the multi-purpose stadium had been scrapped and said football had already started discussions with the Government about alternatives to improve Subiaco Oval.
“Clearly Subiaco Oval can’t be retained just as it is,” he said. “As we know there are issues with it right now in terms of the three-tier stand that require urgent rectification. We would be keen to get into some discussion in terms of what is realistic and practical for the future of Subiaco Oval.”
Dr Fong said improving Subiaco Oval should be the WA Government’s top stadium priority. “I wouldn’t call it a pecking order but everybody understands the need for football to be able to cater for more people to go to games,” he said.
“It is the premier winter sport in WA and it provides social and economic benefit way beyond any other sport in the State. As much as we don’t belittle the other codes, we are very keen to push football as a priority.”
I thought his credibility had all dried up since his excellent display of leadership of WA Health. Rugby and Football (that's the World Game, Dr Fong, not your nancy pants played in three states version) would do well to check their backs for scalpels.
Oh, and Dr Fong - imagine if MES gets a substantial upgrade, we might get a Bledisloe or minor World Cup 2018 fixure here, and wouldn't that be a bonus for the economy. Whatever you are charging for Subi signage per metre, you can quadruple it twice or thrice if we get a world cup game.
I will stop short of calling him an Anseranas semipalmata, even though both are threatened species and aggressive when provoked.
