Reds players praise Hugh McMeniman's courage after father's death

Senior Queensland players say Hugh McMeniman's courage to take the field in Friday night's match against New South Wales just hours after the death of his father will inspire the Reds for the rest of the Super 14 campaign.
The 15-11 loss at the hands of the Waratahs at the Sydney Football Stadium left Queensland with a precarious 1-3 win-loss record for 2009 ahead of this Saturday night's home game against the Sharks.
However, the pain of another defeat with the familiar tale of gilt-edged scoring opportunities going to waste was put into perspective by McMeniman's personal loss.
The towering lock flew into Brisbane ahead of his teammates to be with his family after his father Geoff passed away on Friday. He had been in intensive care for the past month.
All Black flanker and Reds star recruit Daniel Braid said he was moved by McMeniman's decision to play.
"It's huge for me coming into the team and a guy showing what Queensland means to him," Braid said.
"After the loss of his father he still wants to go out there and play for Queensland. It means a lot for the boys and it's just disappointing that we couldn't pull out a win for him."
