The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) says the code is devastated by the loss of two promising young rugby players in yesterday's tragic car accident near Toowoomba in the state's south-east.

True Sons of the West

Honour the names of these “Sons of the West”,
The type who could pass every kind of bush test,
To prove that they deserved to wear the brand,
Worn by those who have been born to this red land.

Bush men, who truly lived life to it’s most,
And were the kind of mates of whom you’d boast,
The kind who were there in good times and tough,
And would pitch in and help out when times got rough.

Amongst the hardest of workers in the bush,
At peace outback, away from the city push,
All proud “Station Kids”, with many a mate,
With names well known around this big state.

So then, mourn for awhile, but then be glad,
For all the times we shared and the mates we had.
Honour the memory of these “Sons of the West”,
For our mates, in their prime, lay at rest.
