ARU plea: Let us entertain you
    By Iain Payten

    June 20, 2008 12:00am

ARU boss John O'Neill issued a desperate "call to arms" to rugby fans last night as sluggish ticket sales for the Wallabies' Test against France prompted fears of a half-empty ANZ Stadium next week.

Despite the public excitement of Robbie Deans' arrival, the prospect of woeful Sydney Test crowds for consecutive years remains, with just 43,000 tickets sold for the Wallabies' clash at Homebush on June 28.

Keen to avoid a repeat of the loss-making Tests against weak Welsh and South African sides in 2007, O'Neill last night..Read More

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

43,00 thats pretty lame, but given rugby tickets are pretty $$$$ it's hardly surprising that people spent their dough on the Bledisloe tickets instead- i know that's what I'd choose.
If they're only getting 40k for these games- move them to the SFS, better ground, better atmopshere, better experience all round.

The ticket prices are a rip-off full stop...they should've learnt from previous years and dropped the price a little to pick up the ticket sales for non-bledisloe matches and make their profit that way.

Bledisloe Tickets were $184 for Platinum and $144 for Gold

When I purchased my Gold seats on the first day of the "pre-sale" because I was a Force member - the only seats were available were either in the top tier or on the ground level tier on the Corners.

I would love to go to the French game as well, but who can afford that amount of $$$ for both games?

I cant. if JO'N wants to entertain me - he can forward my free tickets c/- Beer Garden.

They're expecting over 70 000 for the Socceroos vs China game at Homebush and that's a dead rubber... I wonder how much those tickets are?

As it stands, the fixtures for this year:

    • Melbourne(1) = Ireland
    • Syney(4) = France, New Zealand + AustraliaA vs Tonga & AustraliaA vs NZ Maori
    • Brisbane(3) = France, New Zealand + AustraliaA vs Fiji
    • Perth(1) = South Afrcia

Entertain me John O'Neill by bringing more games to Perth! Highly unlikely concidering NSW and Queensland are the 'rugby states'. This poses the question if we had a quality RECTANGULAR stadium could WA get more international games played here? I think to solve John's problem he should build us a new stadium then there would be much better chance of selling tickets and he wouldn't have a problem.

Laura, given that Australia A games are being played at North Sydney Oval, MES is probably sufficient to host such a game.
As for stadium= more games for us, I'd love to say yes but I think the equation is more like "ARU realises the rugby market extends beyond Sydney and Brisbane"= more games for us

How about ARU realises that WA is predominately an AFL state and would be wise to fortify the territory they do own before spreading to thin and losing the lot
