Wallabies assistant coach Tony McGahan says Australia have started to exhibit the ruthless streak needed to conquer the All Blacks.
The Wallabies have ridden a rollercoaster of performance in recent years, backing up strong performances with sub-standard efforts that led to dispiriting losses.
McGahan was the mastermind of one such defeat in 2010, when he coached Irish province Munster to a shock victory over Australia in a midweek tour match in cyclonic wind and rain in Limerick.
After being recruited to return home and join Robbie Deans's staff this year, McGahan expressed a desire to see the Wallabies sharpen their killer instinct and after a few short months in a gold tracksuit, he's happy with the progress.
"It's that real ruthlessness is what you're looking for. It is not something that is easily tangible. You get that culture instilled by certainly senior players, and we have been really lucky in the way they've directed the group," McGahan said.
The Wallabies' composure in the recent Test series against Wales in June was a significant step, in the mind of McGahan.
