    NRL in Perth - Petition

Just noticed this event on facebook and sent it along to a few of the WA TWF crew.

Would be a good opportunity to show our support for them and hopefully get more of them onside with our cause and hopefully with our election efforts for the stadium.

    http://www.facebook.com/event.php?ei...f%3Dp%26s%3D30

If you don't have facebook, here's the details:
Start Time: Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 5:00pm
End Time: Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 10:00pm
Location: Lark Hill Sportsplex - AND - George Burnett Park
    City/Town: Perth, Australia

Here is the write up they have for the event:

WE NEED A MINIMUM OF 2,000+ PEOPLE SIGNING THE PETITION AT EACH OF THE TWO REMAING REDS GAMES

    CAN WE COUNT YOU IN?

BETWEEN THE TWO GAMES THAT WILL BE A TOTAL OF 4,000+ WHO SEND A STRONG MESSAGE TO MR GALLOP?

As you are probably aware, David Gallop came out on the Footy Show last week and stated that Perth “isn’t ready” for an NRL team and that they should focus on the “Heartland” of NSW and QLD, etc, etc.

Like a lot of West Australians, this did little to increase our love of the “wise men from the east” but, after letting it sink in, it has actually prompted us to work even harder to prove them wrong.

The bottom line is we need to give them a demonstration of support that they simply can’t ignore and we have the perfect opportunities to do that via our remaining two WA REDS games.

We need to get a level of support at these two games that makes the ARL and the NRL stand up and take notice once and for all and we are challenging any person who calls themselves a genuine Rugby League fan to put the two dates below aside, put away all the excuses and STAND UP TO BE COUNTED!

Come along to both of the last two games and BRING YOUR FRIENDS!

You will be handed a petition at the gate to sign and hand back in and from those signed forms we will draw the winner of a fully signed and framed WA Reds Jersey plus some other great prizes to be drawn at the last game.

Another comment by the all knowing “boffins” in the east was that the Reds would not win one game in our debut season. Well, we have won 6 and will probably finish the season with a few more plus we have only ever been beaten by a substantial margin on one occasion and have just missed out through inexperience (and a ridiculous penalty count) on several other occasions.

The team is playing absolutely fantastic and their confidence is back on a high but they need your support and they need it now. Just as importantly, we have to get a very strong message across to David Gallop and anyone else over there who refuses to take WA Rugby League seriously.

Those who made the trip to North Beach last weekend saw a great game between the Sea Eagles and the Sharks and then one of the best Jim Beam Cup games of the season between the Reds and the Marlins and had a taste of genuine atmosphere and spirit that has been missing from Members Equity Stadium games and I’m sure they will be back for more.

On the 16th August Rockingham Sharks will host the Reds at Lark Hill Sports Complex. For those who haven’t been there yet it is an impressive venue and we will be doing it up to fit the occasion. This will be an amazing day and the Reds are playing the Sydney Bulls, the team they beat in the pre season trial but who are now favourites for the Grand Final.

Then on the 23rd of August we will repeat the dose with the game being hosted by the South Perth Lions at George Burnett Park, Manning against the Cabramatta Blues and more details on this will be available shortly.

OK, so there’s the challenge – if you are genuinely serious about having your own NRL team in the future and putting us in a position to bid for the next opening in 2011 – 2012 then please don’t think it can happen without your support.

Now is the time to STAND UP AND BE COUNTED and the way to do that is come along to the above games and bring as many friends as possible.

WE NEED A MINIMUM OF 2,000+ PEOPLE SIGNING THE PETITION AT BOTH GAMES

    CAN WE COUNT YOU IN?

WILL YOU BE ONE OF THE COMBINED 4,000+ AT BOTH GAMES WHO SEND A STRONG MESSAGE TO MR GALLOP?

Good thing it's a petition to the NRL and not to parliament, or in all probability a serious offence would have been committed by the organisers of this petition in offering inducements (entry in a raffle) to sign.

Think, people, think, before rushing into print.

You should make the effort, jargs. It would give you a chance to see the amazing sports facilities at the Lark Hill complex. You could draw comparisons to what is available in the world class sports centre that is Maddington.

Not sure yet jono, but probably. Have they done any noticable promotion around Rocko?
