THERE would be enough room in the Melbourne Rebels team next season for three quality playmakers with their two star recruits Kurtley Beale and now James O'Connor to play alongside incumbent five-eighth Danny Cipriani, outgoing head coach Rod Macqueen said yesterday.
The Rebels yesterday finally officially trumpeted the signing of O'Connor for two years after the Western Force last week cut off negotiations with the star Wallabies back. The 20-year-old utility will link with Wallabies teammate Beale, who will leave the NSW Waratahs for the Rebels next year.
Cipriani, who has been on the outer with team officials for part of the season because of off-field incidents, revealed he had been active in trying to lure O'Connor to Melbourne.
