Tindall had internal bleeding, punctured lung, torn liver - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

England centre Mike Tindall was left with an inch long tear in his liver, a punctured lung and serious internal bleeding after his side's opening Six Nations match against Wales last week.

The 29-year-old was carried off struggling to breathe at Twickenham and admits the injury was far more serious than he first imagined.

"I didn't realise it at the time but I had a big tear in my liver," he told the Mail.

"It was more than an inch wide and an inch deep and my condition was compounded by air released between the lungs and ribs from the hole in my lung.

"The biggest concern was internal bleeding. I lost two pints of blood into my membrane. Luckily it clotted and stemmed the flow.

"If it had leaked out much more and floated around in my stomach then I would have been in big trouble."

Tindall was injured in a tackle by Wales player Mark Jones, falling awkwardly on to the boot of the Welsh winger.

"If the boot had struck me an inch or two higher or lower then I would have just cracked a couple of ribs. But what really worried me was the fact that I was struggling desperately to breathe," he said.

The Gloucester player was taken to hospital and only released late on Friday after spending several days in intensive care. He had already been ruled out of the rest of the Six Nations.

"I noted things couldn't be too good because I had three needles sticking in my arms and another two in my neck," he said.

"I've grown used to serious injuries over the years, although I've never experienced anything like this before.

"I'm just glad to be here to talk about it."

Sure as hell hope they've got some corporate types that don't actually want to watch any rugby (Note the view from the second tier when the seats are extended!)

I'm making sure I get in VERY EARLY with a request for seating in the lowest tier (where I'll have to walk about 5 miles for a beer, and take a raincoat to wet matches)

This pipedream looks OK, shame it'll never get used on a weekly basis!

Farrout. That's some injury. I didn't see the game but he must have fallen hard.

Apparently Tindall skipped from the game for a couple of pints at where he caught up with the Yak.....said gudday....got the shit beat out of him and returned to the game, The premise of it all happening in a tackle is a cover up.......Just watch the channel 10 news in Brissy!
