Without sounding arrogant I did - the second half was the first string Wallaby Side - Connolly is still desepartley looking for the second string 12 - Adam Ashley Cooper is not working out unless I missed something last night (- they said last night that Gitts knee is sore so I'm guessing that Cross might get a call up ) mind you I said that last week too.

They seem to have depth everywhere else - forwards didn't look convincing in the scrum until the Welsh ran out of steam about half way through the first half - am guessing that they will struggle against the BOKs there but then so will every other team

Yep - but is there anyone better than him ? With all this emerging talent there must be another 12 out there you need the best to go to the World Cup and ideally you would want 3 for each position - to be sure to be sure to be sure

Another instresting facet of last nights game was the difference between Gitts and Gregan at 9 - Gitts is attacking while Gregan is defensive - he'll quite merrily put his fists in and trick the opp into giving the penalty then he turns around and tell the ref to give the penalty (20 mins after the end of the game he was still talking to the ref )

Based on his 2006 performance at 12, and his performance this year everytime he got his hands on the ball - I think he arguably could be the best...

If we agree that after Gitts, Stanners is the best at 12 - who would you call up next ?

(I feel for Stanners because he is always made to look the bridesmaid and never the bride - not sure if Connolly rates him - interesting to try and talk to him on Tuesday and see what he has to say - probably come out with some humble twaddle though !)

All major news reports are calling for the giteau experiments to cease, and settle on the gregan larkham giteau combo...
All your talk about finding players to step up should injuries come into play TQ1 is understandable, but the whole "stick giteau in an unfamiliar possie and see if he adapts" plan is ridiculous and always has been. There are other players in Aus who are skilled at half, ie henjak, cordingley etc and we don't need to watch someone who is not in thier preffered spot get shown up after half time by a true expert (gregan) of a halfback...
I think huxley had a great game, digby was OK, cooper "who" sucked(get rid of deadwood), gerrard when he came on looked like a fish out of water, vickerman looked excellent and so too sharpie, who is our useless hooker at the moment, frier when he came on looked good...I thought our frontrow played really well and wyclyffe was my choice for Man of Match...Mitchell also had a great game on the wing, gregan was excellent, gits ok first half, much better in second, larkham was alright for first game back...
Still have work to do, but based on the second half we are looking a lot better, but the real test will be the tri nations and if we are still experimenting then we will be chewed up and spat out by both nations...

gregan and cordingly are 2 world class number 9s. we have no back up number 10 (id give berrick barnes a run) staniforth should back up gits and we have heaps of outside backs. altho i was confused at first as to why gits was at 9, we do need depth at 10 and 12, so no point playing gits there in these meaningless tests when an injury at 10 or 12 could set australia well back in there world cup plans. im really hungover, so i hope that makes sense...

I was thinking the same thing. I'm still pinching myself.

Perhaps now reports of selectors having "no options for inside centre" will stop, and I'll stop spitting out my coffee when I read the sports pages. It's been quite messy, recently.

I agree about Mitchell, FR. However I think he was a bit greedy, he could have passed the ball to Doughnut, would have loved to see him attempt a swan dive.

On another point. I hope that Welsh kid's knee/leg is not too bad, that was ugly. Right in front of the camara. Made me feel sick to watch it in slomo.

    Yeah, that was nasty...
Doughnut would have muffed it anyway, or taken a shot for fieldgoal, or something stupid...If he had of swan dived it would have moved the richter scale...Funny to watch though i would have to agree...
