Sharpe for South Africa tour, sanity at last

Looks like Sharpey still has a foot in the door.....

    Sharpe for SA tour

Not exactly what we wanted but at least a step in the right direction for him to get his rightful place back and bring sanity to the ludicrous happengs of the past week

    Excuse me?

Rookie lock Sitaleki Timani, who has signed a Japanese deal which precludes him from playing club football, is in Auckland and is expected to again be picked in the 26-man travel squad to Durban for development purposes.

Why exactly do we have him in the Squad?
He's either Test ready and better than at least two other proven Locks or he should be on his way to Japan to settle in!
This is no time to be developing Locks that are only around for a few weeks.

I don’t get it why would you spend all this time on developing a young lock if he is just going to bugger off to Japan?? If you were looking to the future wouldn’t you want someone who would actually be there? Some one like Wykes maybe?? Mind Boggling

I think he has only signed a one year deal in Japan and may be back part way through next year's Super XV. That would normally not be enough but then he plays for the Waratahs so there you go.

    Rookie lock Sitaleki Timani,
So the guy has played 1 year each at the Force, Brumbies and Waratahs, missed out on Fiji test side and signed for a club side in Japan.

    What does that tell you?

That every Super Rugby coach he's played under before Chris Hickey, most people in the media and on this website know jack shit. Apparently.

Timani has promise, just like every other coach saw in him but failed to give him opportunity and confidence… Not the first islander lad not to be understood by his coach…

This close to RWC we need more than promise.

Sharpe's experience in the international arena and specifically the RWC competition, along with his knowledge of the players around him in the scrum and lineouts should be enough to firmly cement him into the Wallabies side for the RWC. This on top of the respect from his Wallabies team mates, which helps create a stabilising presence for a young Wallabies team, both on and off the field.

Now if Sharpe had a shocking injury ridden Super Rugby season I would be able to grasp more fully why he is being used like a yoyo by Deans, but he had a great Super Rugby season playing all matches bar 1. So what is Deans doing switching around lock combinations leading into the RWC, now is not the time, you can do that in the next four years when Sharpe is moving into or has retired from the game.

....Oh look, there's this young Wykes bloke ready to be a Wallabies lock for the next international campaign.....

    jmho.

Sharpie is better against the ABs than Simmons was on Saturday. He gets over the gain line, he would have had their line-out under pressure and he would have got through more work too.
