Their golden generation has either retired or lost form. I wouldn't bet on them winning any 4-Nations matches in the first year, but also wouldn't bet against them returning to the top 5 within a few years.

Scotland beating them twice in Argentina recently wouldn't have helped their cause. PS-Watch Scotland overtake England next

And with Saturday's upcoming match, the potential for ranking points exchange is
    Australia win (<15 pts) 1.52
    NZ win (<15 pts) 0.48

So when/if Aus win the ranking won't change but the ranking points will be

    NZ 92.77
    Aus 87.56
    RSA 85.22

Not that it counts for a huge amount when trying to forecast the outcome of a particular match but the ranking does provide a good guide to trends. The most notable one being that Australia is slowely closing the gap on the Bliks.

I'll bet a graph across RWC years would look interesting, we seem to have turned a corner and are on the "up" heading into 2011 along with peaks in 91, 99 and "all but" in 2003.

Wouldn't be surprised if they do - I really don't rate Johnson as a coach. Great motivator, but isn't equipped with the skills/knowledge required to improve players.

I reckon it's because he was a naturally good player - he didn't have to learn how to improve his game and so can't understand why the players around him aren't performing. Give me a mediocre player as a coach any day - they usually had to think about the game more.

Couldn't agree more Sheikh- Johnson was a naturally gifted player and one of the most inspirational captains ever (other than David Sole IMHO). Andy Robinson on the other hand is motivated to win because of the way he was sacked. His biggest failing (apparently) was his selection choices but he won't have that problem with Scotland- not enough to choose from as it is!! And who'd have thought it- a Kiwi coaching Australia & an Englishman coaching Scotland. What next- the women's world cup producing the tackle of the year?? haha- brilliant

What makes it even worst is....Rugby is the National sport over there and if you look at the number of registered players in the top 3 countries, the Saffers should be #1, but......

    Registered players:
    SA 488 044
    NZ 145 293
    Aus 84 450

Position according to number of players, I think we are looking pretty good.
