    Sharpe for Wallaby Captain?

The MOST consistent performer in Super 14 this year.

Shown as a TRUE leader through all the losses.

    HUMBLE in victory.

None of Mortlock, Giteau, Elsom or Barnes are the best players in their positions at the moment. Genia and Pocock look like being the best bets for Wallaby captains in the future. I'd install Sharpie as captain until the World Cup and tell Genia and Pocock to watch Sharpe and learn the ropes.

I might be one eyed, but Sharpie's captaincy skills are exemplary. He and Will Genia are the only players in the hunt who are assured of their positions. You can't choose a captain whose place in the side is under threat.

Sharpie has four qualities that set him apart from everyone else:

    1) He has a mountain of experience- he's been around for 10 years now and he knows a lot about winning and losing. He must be closing in on 100 test caps pretty soon. Guys like Will Genia just don't have that.

    2) He has the endurance. A couple of years back Sharpie went something like a whole test season only missing 3 minutes (blood bin) of test rugby. That's hardcore. You want your captain on the field for the full 80 and a guy like Sharpie can do that week in week out and rarely gets injured.

    3) He is consistent. Since Dan Vickerman left he has been head and shoulders the best lock in Australia. He rarely has a bad game. He also isn't going to be replaced in the starting 15 any time soon.

    4) He isn't a bitch. Enough said.

If Elsom really is under threat, I doubt he'll be replaced for any reason other than that he continues to play below par. Let's see how he performs in a real do or die in Christchurch this week and take it from there. He may be paying the price for playing just too much football over the past 2 seasons and there's a long road to travel yet. Sharpe would be the only obvious choice should they decide to relieve Elsom - daylight second.

If it isnt Elsom, and I still think it will be, then it will be Genia or Pocock.

If Mr Deans would like a reference letter, for Mr Sharpe's Wallaby Captaincy nomination, I will be very happy to provide one..

Probably the most consistent but at 32 doubtful he'll get the gig. Can't see the point of a short-term captain..would suggest Genia..think he has the goods..is in the "right" position..

I don't see that as being a hurdle Kenya. Aussie rugby cycles from World Cup to World Cup. Many of our experienced players will retire from international rugby after this world cup, there will be some surprises, if he lasts in the role until the end of next year he's as eligible as anybody on that front.

IF Elsom is relieved, I don't think Sharpe's age will be a factor. He'll be there until at least the end of RWC 2011, barring injury. As will Deans. Two full Test seasons and a NH tour between now and then. Bam or Genia will ahve their time after that.

EDIT: beat me to it, GIGS.

another positive for Sharpie is that he already knows how to tell Gits to pull his freaking head in.
