Brumbies push for top-five system
The Brumbies are pushing to have a top-five system implemented for the finals of next year's super 14 rugby union season.
I like the current format. With only playing each team once there are no second chances during any of the rounds, and there should be no second chances in the finals either...
Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
Top five is a great idea it rewards minor premiers with a week off and a 2nd chance it also adds another couple of weeks to the season which i think is great.
Top 5??
Top 4 or you're out, in my opinion...
Hockey works slightly differently, and I prefer it:
Quarter Final
1 vs 2
3 vs 4
Semi Final
Loser of 1 vs 2 plays Winner of 3 vs 4
(Winner of 1 vs 2 gets a week off)
Final
Winner of Semi plays Winner of 1 vs 2 in Quarter
That way, if you finish in the top 2, and you bomb out in the quarter, you get a second chance. And if you win, you're sitting pretty until the final!
(Rewards the struggle to get to the top 2 in the first place.)
I actually got thrown off when someone said it would be a South African final, I kinda went, well not necessarily, then I shut my trap coz I was thinking hockey
And I just realised how absolutely irrelevant that all was![]()
I want to be unique - just like everybody else!
I have to agree with Coach, I don't think there is anything wrong with what we have. As in most years, there were a number of teams able to make the four in the final round with varying degrees of likelihood based on their years performance - if you like, view the last couple of rounds as the preliminary finals (how often did you hear something along the lines of "every game is a final for us now")
Extended finals are fine for domestic competitions when that is all there is, but for mine you get the S14 done and move on to the international season. The last thing you want is half your players in the gym while the others are slogging out another three or four rounds - arguably you'd get to the situation where making the finals damages a players prospects for international selection.
Tahs push for top-thirteen system
Reds ask if the finals can be scrapped and everyone is a winner
I made Happy sad...
The Reds did win
The spoon
5 is stupid, make it 6, top 2 get a buy, 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5. then winners play 1 or 2 based on results and then final.
All it would take is 1 extra week. I think they should make the change, but perhaps when it is a World Cup year they can have just the top 4 so that it gets into internationals a bit earlier.

Well that's what's happened this year![]()
Nah, keep top 4 system i reckon, its just charity otherwise...saying here you're not quite good enough to finish at the top but we'll give you a chance and hope you do well. Terri's got a good point by rewarding the first two teams with a second chance (i know that stipulation's saved my softball team a few times) , but on the other hand ive always thought that if you're the best team you should be able to beat your semi-final opponent and win the final anyway.
