Shane Williams keeps his Dad flush
March 17 2008 Rugby World Magazine Online
Shane Williams was not the only member of his family celebrating on Saturday, as his 41st try for Wales won his father a reported £25,000.
Before Williams had even won a cap for Wales his father, Mike Williams, placed a £50 bet that his son would one day become Wales' leading try scorer - the odds were 500-1.
Williams' second-half try on Saturday took him to 41 tries in just 56 internationals, a new Welsh record. The previous record had been held by Gareth Thomas, although his tally was racked up over 100 Tests.
The first of Williams' 41 tries came on debut, against Italy in 2000, and since then he has maintained a superb strike rate and looks set to build on his tally in the future.
