Tuqiri to support Beale with boot
By Jon Geddes
April 04, 2008
STAR winger Lote Tuqiri is set to spring a major surprise by taking on goalkicking duties for New South Wales in their Super 14 clash with the Blues at the SFS.
Tuqiri has been practicing for the past couple of weeks and stayed back after training this week, hitting the ball sweetly in the deserted SFS under the guidance of Waratahs kicking coach Shannon Fraser.
"If they ask me this week I'll be ready, you can't shy away from anything," Tuqiri said. "I actually don't mind kicking and will take the opportunity if it arises."
He has also been receiving a few expert tips via email from former Australia kicking coach Ben Perkins, who now lives in New Zealand.
Tuqiri is getting reacquainted with a skill he last used in the NRL with the Broncos and the Queensland Origin side. In his final Origin game in 2002, Tuqiri scored 18 points with three tries and three goals from five attempts.
He wants to take some of the burden off the younger kickers, such as Kurtley Beale, and provide the side with more options.
"We might need someone from about 40 out," Tuqiri said. "I've got long levers and I get through the ball quite well, so I kick it a fair way."

He sounds serious..................![]()
looks like he's trying to justify his position...he does bugger all else so he might as well try kicking...
he's kicked once in his rugby life and only at 60% with 3 from 5, and on memory the 3 were straight in front .....
But i'll eat my words if he does well, i'm talking about goal kicking only...
suppose its one way to stay on the park without sitting on the splinters of the bench ..

should be interesting,......
He really is the side show king.![]()
Just happy to be here
Lote's biggest problem is he believes all the hype written about him when he first crossed over to Rugby. He needs to start playing the game not just try and live up to all the smoke that was blown up his arse in the early days.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
I think one person scrums are next on the agenda actually. Who needs a forward pack? We can have tuqiri... who knows...maybe he'll be better up front then out back?![]()
"Remember lads, rugby is a team game; all 14 of you make sure you pass the ball to Giteau."
that tuqiri is a real ideas man, allways ready for the next challenge
