RFU splash the cash
Thursday 10th April 2008 RFU splash the cash - Rugby News, Results, Fixtures and Features from Planet-Rugby.com
With the Rugby Football Union (RFU) busying themselves with a new England management structure they do so intent on reminding us all that rugby isn't football.
With England's latest football manager, Fabio Capello, reportedly on a contract worth £5m-plus we would do well to remember the RFU runs their management operation at a little over a fifth of that figure - and that is for the entire management.
As the RFU prepare to unveil Martin Johnson as the latest member of their team - although in what role still remains to be seen - it seems right to assess just how much those in charge are earning.
The likely breakdown at the RFU, if Martin Johnson is confirmed as England national manager, will be approximately as follows, according to figures printed in The Daily Telegraph:
RFU Director of Rugby: Rob Andrew (£250,000pa)
England Manager: Martin Johnson (£250,000pa)
England Coach: Brian Ashton (£170,000pa)
Forwards Coach: John Wells (£120,000pa)
Defence Coach: Mike Ford (£120,000pa)
Backs Coach: tbc (£120,000pa)
Total: £1,300,000 approximately
On top of this RFU Chief Executive Francis Baron is said to be earning around £300,000, plus bonuses related to RFU's financial performance, for his role.
