The Waratahs attack coach Brian Melrose is moving on to pursue other coaching opportunities after two seasons with the Waratahs.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time here but the Waratahs are heading in a different direction with their coaching setup,” said Melrose.
“There’s a growing number of professional coaching opportunities in Australia and overseas and I’m looking forward to resuming my chase for a senior professional coaching position.”
Waratahs head coach Ewen McKenzie paid tribute to Melrose and his passion for coaching.
“Brian is clearly passionate about his rugby and his coaching. He offers a broad range of coaching skills and I think he’ll do well wherever he ends up,” said McKenzie.
“He was a very good head coach at Manly and after two seasons with the Waratahs I think Brian is in a strong position to head up another team.
“Brian’s been part of a pretty successful Waratahs campaign and that would make him an attractive proposition for many rugby franchises.”
Melrose joined NSW Rugby in 2004 as an Academy coach before a rapid promotion to the Waratahs for the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

Sounds like a sugar-coated sacking to me?
Players win matches, Attack Coaches apparently lose them and Head Coaches are allowed to sit and whinge?

I think it may have been exactly that Burgs, the fact that there's "plenty of opportunities in australian rugby" tells me he's not going anywhere straight away.
It tells me one of two things (which I had suspected before), either Melrose and McKenzie butted heads often about the underuse of the backline (lord knows I would) or he was soft and a bit of a yes man, letting Ewen run his 10-man game with no argument at all.
We now need someone that can stand up to McKenzie and work well with him to make a gameplan that utilises the backline in the most effective way.
Oh, and we need another winger as well.![]()
I'm sure you will be able to buy both in no time mate![]()
