The big names keep on signing up for the Top League.
And there are few bigger names in rugby than George Gregan.
On Wednesday, reigning champion Suntory Sungoliath announced it had signed the former Wallaby captain to a two-year deal.
Hang on...
Toulon won automatic promotion from the French Second Division, Pro D2, as champions and have a star-studded squad, including former Australia scrum-half George Gregan and World Cup-winning English wing Dan Luger.
Brother Gallagher I hear you
Good to see the little man is in such high demand!
But who will he go with?
I made Happy sad...
I assume he's going to the "Sungoliath" - he may have already played out his contract in France...
Now the Japanese just need to start paying their own players enough to be full-time professionals and they might have a decent league.
i didn't like him that much. what about campese, eales etc.?
Be There. Be Heard. Be The Force Behind The Force
They're a bit too old for that now hun.
That's why a lot of players leave Australia before their bodies give up on them so they can receive lucrative payment deals while they still have a few more years of rugby playing left in them.![]()
I made Happy sad...
Don't get me started FA (but you did). Quite simply, he holds the world rugby test cap record with 139, led the Wallabies a record 58 games (according to the ARU website its 58, according to some news articles back in the day its a tied world record of 59), and has played 136 Super 12/14 games, a SANZAR record.
And he makes a cracking cup of coffee too.![]()
I made Happy sad...
Godd on him, I thought he would play in the Top 14 in France for Toulon?
He is also a true gentleman in the game - don't remember any off field incidents (gotta admit to enjoying the on field banter between Paddy O'Brien (ref) and George) but do remember some of the charity stuff - also he even looked good eating Weetbix - a marketing man's delightgosh I'd hire him for any team.
61 years between Grand SlamsWas the wait worth it - Ya betta baby
His book "Halfback, Half forward" (panmacmillan, Hardcover, $49.99) is out September 1st too![]()
