Carter chooses Perpignan over Toulon
Friday, 27 June 2008 08:08
New Zealand fly-half Daniel Carter will spend his rugby sabbatical with French Top 14 side Perpignan.
The 26-year-old made the announcement today and said bringing an end to months of speculation had been a 'big weight off the shoulders'.
He will join the French outfit at the conclusion of the All Blacks' tour of Britain and Ireland at the end of November and will return to New Zealand in June 2009 in time for the All Blacks' international season.

Perpignan get Daniel Carter
June 27, 2008
PERPIGNAN has emerged from left field to secure the services of All Blacks superstar Daniel Carter.
While the south of France was always his preferred option for the six-month stint abroad included in his New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) contract extension, Carter was consistently linked to former All Blacks captain Tana Umaga's newly promoted Toulon or Biarittz.
Instead the premier pivot announced today he has opted for their French Top 14 rivals Perpignan _ another glamour club near the Mediterranean _ for an undisclosed sum.
Carter will join Perpignan after the All Blacks' end of year tour to the United Kingdom and Ireland concludes with the Test against England at Twickenham on November 29.
He will miss next year's Super 14 tournament but return in June with an eye to retaining his position for the All Blacks early season internationals _ despite having played practically non-stop for 18 months.
